Emotional Eating; is it harmful?
Emotional eating is a coping mechanism for many, and isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes you might need a good cry, and some ice cream. A stressful day leads to a pizza and a glass of wine. The thing to remember is food isn't inherently good or bad. Some may be more nutrient dense, some may be for pure enjoyment, but there is no food to feel guilty over. Realising this may help break the emotional eating cycle!πππ°
Demonising certain foods can have a detrimental effect on your overall health, we want to focus on meeting not only physical needs, but mental, emotional and social needs as well. Removing restrictive behaviours, and guilt over food can help break the emotional eating cycle, but we also need to look at other ways of coping with emotion than just relying on food.ππ¨πΆββοΈ
Maybe you need to speak to someone to find your emotional trigger and get to the root cause, or perhaps you just need something else to focus on. What you need may depend on the day, and the time in your lifeπ₯°
Remember, one meal, one snack, any food, does not define your self-worth or nutrition status. Listen to your body, and be kind to yourself. π§‘π
